Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a chronic inflammatory lung disease that causes obstructed airflow from the lungs. Symptoms include difficulty in breathing, cough, mucus production and wheezing. Emphysema and chronic bronchitis are the most common conditions that cause COPD. Damage to the lungs caused by COPD can’t be cured. Smoking is the main cause for COPD. Along with the above symptoms, chest pain, tiredness, weight loss, swelling in lower legs are some of the warning signals of COPD. Till date there is no cure for this dreadful disease, only few medications are available that can slow the progression rate and give some relief for certain period. There are 4 stages in COPD viz, Mild, Moderate, Sever and Last Stage. Average life span after diagnosis of COPD is about five years.
