Biography
Arvind K Chaturvedi is a pioneer in interventional radiology in India, Dr. Arvind K Chaturvedi is currently the Chair of the Department of Radiology and Interventional Oncology at the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre. He has been with the Institute since its inception in 1996 and has been a key partner in making the Institute the world-class organization it is today. He also served as the Medical Director of the institute from 2006 to 2010.
Dr. Chaturvedi has been appointed as the national Subspecialty head for Oncologic Imaging by the Indian Radiological and Imaging Association. He has authored and edited “Imaging protocols and Reporting guidelines” with contributions from a team of national experts.
His expertise in treating liver cancers with Radio Frequency and Microwave ablation is recognized internationally. He currently serves as a Director Member of the Asian Society of Tumour Ablation. He was an invited member of the Asia Summit Forum on Tumor Ablation in Fukuoka, Japan in 2015, Asian Conference on Tumor Ablation 2017 in Guangzhou in China, and ACTA 2018. He has delivered invited guest lectures on R F Ablation at the Zurich University Hospital, Switzerland, Strong Memorial Hospital, University of Rochester, New York, and The European Society of Hyperthermic Oncology annual meeting. His landmark presentations during RSNA 2004 and 2006 on mediastinal biopsies using an innovative suprasternal approach have been some of the highlights of his career. His path-breaking original research presentation on intra-parenchymal hydro dissection to optimize RFA in the liver delivered during the European Congress of Radiology 2016 and at the Onco Imaging and Intervention conference at MDACC (Houston) in 2018 has drawn international attention.
A British Council Fellow from Bristol University, England, Dr. Chaturvedi has been appointed an international expert by the IAEA, Vienna in the field of oncological imaging. He has been conferred with the “Distinguished Service Award” by IRIA (Delhi). He has been a visiting professor at the University of Rochester, New York, USA, and is a life member of the Radiological Society of North America.
He is a recipient of Roengen Oration and Gold medal, has authored over 80 scientific papers, and 4 book chapters, and has delivered over 100 guest lectures and orations at meetings in India and abroad. He has been associated with numerous international clinical trials as an expert on clinical imaging. He has been a national and international faculty in a number of scientific meetings in India and abroad. He has traveled and lectured extensively all over the world including the USA, Belgium, Austria, Switzerland, Nepal, Pakistan, the UK, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, and China.
A keen educator Dr. Chaturvedi directs an international fellowship program in Oncological Radiology at his institute. Many overseas radiologists have completed their fellowship training under his guidance. He is an advisory board member of “Global Focus on Cancer”, New York. He originally acquired his medical education at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, and initiated his career in the Army Medical Core in the Armed Forces.
Dr. Chaturvedi has been awarded the Scroll of Honour for his distinguished services with the institute. His current interests include radiofrequency and microwave ablation of tumors, Body Imaging, and optimizing healthcare delivery.
