Biography
Dr. Atanu Jana has rendered his services at Sheth M.C. College of Dairy Science, Kamdhenu University, Anand, Gujarat State, India formerly under Anand Agricultural University (AAU), Anand, Gujarat and Gujarat Agricultural University (GAU), Sardar Krushinagar, Gujarat for 38 years and currently holding the post of Principal at the same college since July, 2022. Dr. Jana is the Chairman and erstwhile TQM member of Vidya Dairy, Anand. He is the Patron of Alumni Association, SMC College of Dairy Science, Anand; had been the past President of Alumni Association for 3 years till December, 2022.
Dr. Jana had earned B.Sc.(Dairy Technology), M.Sc.(Dairying) and Ph.D. (Dairy Technology) from GAU, Sardar Krushinagar, Gujarat, India. He was involved in Teaching (Undergraduate, Postgraduate and Doctoral students in the field of Dairy and Food Technology), Research and Extension. Dr. Jana has specialized in cheese and cheese analogues and have developed several new natural flavors for ice cream.
He is the Principal Investigator for a research entitled “cheese analogue simulating Mozzarella” and has guided 22 M.Tech. and 4 Ph.D. students. Dr. Jana had been the external examiner for Ph.D. thesis from Graduate Research Centre, Victoria University, Australia and Faculty of Science, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong besides several post graduate thesis from reputed Indian Universities. Dr. Jana has to his credit more than 10 Book chapters and more than 150 papers (Research and Technical) in Indian as well as International journals (USA, Australia, UK, Egypt, Canada) of repute. One book “Textbook of Cheese Technology” written by him with three co-authors is in its final stage of publication by ICAR, New Delhi. Dr. Jana had contributed invited papers for several journals/magazines. Dr. Jana is a Member, Editorial Board for Dairy Research and Technology, Herald Scholarly Open Access; CIBTech and STM Journals. He is the Referee of several esteemed journals viz., Int. Dairy J., Foods, Afr. J. Food Sci., JAOCS, J. Food Sci., J. Food Sci. & Technol., Asian J. Dairy & Food Res., etc.
Dr. Jana is currently the Vice Chairman, Indian Dairy Association (IDA, Gujarat State Chapter). He had been the Member of Broad Subject Area Matter [BSMA] for Dairy Technology discipline pertaining to post graduate and Doctoral courses and their rules and regulations. He had been the Member, UGC-Expert committee for accreditation of National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal, Haryana and for Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture Science & Technology, Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. He served as External expert for Sub-group of FSSAI regarding formulation of standard for low-fat Mozzarella and processed cheeses. Dr. Jana had served as Reviewer for two UG courses in NAHEP, e-Learning. Dr. Jana had been the Quiz Master and had been the Organizing Secretary for ‘National Dairy and Food Quiz Contest’ held at the College annually for more than a decade.
Dr. Jana is the Life Member of IDA, New Delhi; Association of Food Scientists and Technologists of India, Mysore; Dairy Technology Society of India, Karnal and Indian Science Congress, Kolkata. He had been awarded with ‘Best Teacher Award’ for the year 2014-15 from Dairy Science College, AAU, Anand and ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ from AGRO Environmental Development Society, Rampur in 2021. Dr. Jana is the Fellow of National Academy of Dairy Sciences [NADS(I)], Karnal and of IDA, New Delhi. Dr. Jana has to his credit ‘Reviewer Excellence Award’ conferred by Agriculture Research Communication Centre [ARCC] and Annual Research & Review in Biology Journals.
