Biography

Dr. R.P. Saini, Professor in the Department of Hydro and Renewable Energy (formerly Alternate Hydro Energy Centre), has been working at IIT Roorkee. He did his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical from University of Mysore in 1982, Master of Engineering and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Roorkee in the years of 1989 & 1996 respectively. He has research experience of 38 years and has been working in the research areas of renewable energy especially Small Hydro Power, Solar and Wind. He also worked as MNRE Chair Professor (Renewable Energy) for the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India during 2019 to 2022. He is also Chairman, Technical Committee on Hydro Research and Member, Standing Committee on R&D (SCRD) of Central Power Research Institute, Ministry of Power, and Government of India.

He has published more than 380 Research Papers in International/National Journals and Seminars/Conferences, 2 Books, 5 Book Chapters, 2 (two) Manuals and 1 Guide Book.

34 (Thirty-four) Ph.D. thesis have been completed and another 18 (Eighteen) are in progress under his supervision. He has guided 226 (Two hundred twenty-six) M.Tech. Dissertations & projects.

About 300 (Three hundred) consultancy and sponsored projects have been handled by him. He has also co-ordinated about 35 International/National training courses. Two patents on Micro Turbines from his research have been granted. Apart from the above, he has acted as Technical Expert for 4 TV programs developed for UGC and also undertook administrative responsibilities at Institute level from time to time including Head of the Department.

He has received “best teacher award of IIT Roorkee” in 2012 and was adjudged as the “star performer of IIT Roorkee” in 2003-04 and 2004-05.  He was awarded by “Bharat Jyoti Award” by India International Friendship Society in 2015, “Best Citizens of India award” by International Publishing House, in 2016 and also “Lifetime Achievement Award” by Venus International Foundation, in 2016.

Recently he has been listed in world’s top 2% Scientist from India by Stanford University Scientists. His Google Research Citation is 13306 with h-index of 62. He has visited more than 25 countries.
