Biography

Dr. S. V. Eswaran, born 8th June 1947; B.Sc. (Hons.), 1966, M. Sc., 1968, Ph. D. 1973. Served as Head, Chemistry Department and Dean (Academics), St. Stephen’s College (44 years, 1968-2012). Prof. (Hony.), Amity Institute of Environmental Toxicology, Safety and Management (AIETCSM), NOIDA, Uttar Pradesh. Adjunct Prof. (Hony.), Deakin University, Australia at the Teri Deakin Nano Biotechnology Centre (TDNBC), Teri Gram, Gwal Pahari, Gurugram-Faridabad Expressway, Haryana. Ex-Emeritus Scientist & Visiting Scientist (2014-2018), Regional Centre for Biotechnology (UNESCO-DBT), Faridabad, Haryana & Emeritus Scientist-CSIR (2012-2015). Served as Emeritus Professor (Hony.) Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research, (AcSIR). Served as Principal (permanent), Deshbandhu College, Delhi on lien (2001-03). Have received numerous teaching awards (Dr. Abdul Kalam Lifetime Achievement Award of the Society of Biomedical Scientists of India, 2016; Indian National Science Academy (INSA) teacher award, 2013; “Teacher of Eminence”, for Life Time Dedicated to Undergraduate Teaching, Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi, 2013; Delhi University Distinguished teacher award, 2009 Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI Best teacher award), 2007.

Have done post-doctoral research work in the Max-Planck Institute for Biochemistry, Munich, 1976-77 University of Heidelberg, 1984, University of Karlsruhe, 1984, University of Goettingen, 1997, Germany, Kluyver Lab. For Biotechnology, Technical University, Delft, Netherlands, 190-91; Ohio State University (OSU), Columbus, Ohio USA, 1997 and Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island, USA. 2006. A former German Academic Exchange- University Grants Commission (DAAD-UGC) fellow, 1976-77, and recipient of the Atomic Energy Commission (AEC) Post Graduate Scholarship. 1967-68. Listed in IBC Outstanding Scientists Worldwide 2007, Nominated as the International Scientist of the Year 2007, Included in the Marquis Who’s Who in the World 2010 Have been a Local Commissioner/ technical expert/ technical witness in several national/international patent cases.

Have published 75 research papers and have many patents to my credit. Have supervised/ co-supervised 10 Ph.D. & 25 M.Sc. / B. Tech./ M. Tech. Theses. “Grandpa’s Noble Tales”-tales and anecdotes of scientists 2017, written by me is available for sale on Amazon. In the book, “Essays on Chemistry”-A Central Science Playing God, 2018 is available on Vigyan Prasar, Department of Science & Technology (DST), Govt. of India website.
