Dr. Igor Pioro is a Professor at the Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science (FESNS) of the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT), Oshawa, Canada. Dr. Pioro graduated from the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kiev Polytechnic Institute” with M.A.Sc. in Thermal Physics in 1979.  After that, he worked in various positions including an engineer, senior scientist, and deputy director at the Institute of Engineering Thermal Physics National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (1979‑1992), researcher, and part-time professor at the University of Ottawa (1992‑2000), senior scientist at the Chalk River Labs AECL (2000‑2006), and associate professor (2006‑2011), director of a graduate program in nuclear engineering (2008‑2013), and associate dean at the FESNS of the UOIT (2013; 2015‑2016).

He is an author/co-author for more than 520 publications ‑ 12 technical books, 36 chapters in encyclopedias, handbooks, and books, 101 papers in refereed journals, 298 papers in refereed proceedings of international and national conferences and symposiums, 26 patents and inventions, and 47 major technical reports.

He is also a Founding Editor and Editor-in-Chief of ASME Journal of Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Science.
