Alternate Hydro Energy Centre
Dr. R. P. Saini, Professor in Alternate Hydro Energy Centre has been working at IIT Roorkee. He did his bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Mysore in 1982, Master, and Ph.D. from the University of Roorkee in 1989 and 1996 respectively. He has started his career in Alternate Hydro Energy Centre, University of Roorkee w.e.f. 1984. Dr. Saini has published more than 265 Research Papers in International / National Journals and Seminars / Conferences 1 Book and 2 (two) Manuals. 20 (twenty) Ph.D. thesis have been completed and another 7 (seven) are in progress under his supervision. He has guided 111 (one hundred eleven) M.Tech dissertations and 66 (sixty-six) M.Tech projects in the area of Small hydropower, Solar energy, and other renewable energy sources development. About 205 (Two hundred five) Consultancy and Sponsored Projects have been handled by him.
He has co-ordinated and organized about 32 International / National training courses in the area of Small hydropower and other renewable energy sources to train the field engineers He was adjudged as the star performer of IIT Roorkee in 2003-04 and 2004-05. He received “The Best Teacher Award of IIT Roorkee” in 2012. He was awarded “The Bharat Jyoti Award by” the India International Friendship Society (2015) and “The Best Citizens of India Award” by International Publishing House (2016). He has developed two models of water mills under the UNDP-GEF technical program of MNRE, Govt. of India. These models are already patented. These systems have been installed at the large number of sites in the hilly states of the country for the improvement of the economic level of rural people.
